This was a fun project. I keep saying that, but it just reminds me that over the last decade or so, I’ve had a lot of fun doing various aspects of mechanical design. This one was brought to me by a machinist. He needed a part that supported its own weight, and several of them would fit together into a large assembly. The machinist wanted to design one, and then change a few numbers and allow him to create several variations. The curvature and rib structure would change with each panel. Each panel was machined from a single block of aluminum, and there were 11 panels similar to this one.
