News from Disneyland Paris

Martyn Day has been tweeting from a DS European Customer Forum. Below is a twitter stream from Martyn. In twit style, you have to read this from the bottom up to get the right chronology, but Martyn’s comment at the top seems to sum it up nicely. It all seems to be just a little strange for a company that used to develop CAD software. More comments at the bottom.

Devon Sowell also commented on the CPR thing. Weird at best. And that blasted “love mark” again. This is the same guy who claims that people love the latest cloud flop, !nFuze. The cloud will have to respect international borders? Love that. Just ask nicely, and maybe stamp your foot a little. The internet will surely play along. Is it Catia Live Buildings or SolidWorks Live Buildings? They seem to waffle on that point.

I don’t know, you couldn’t make stuff like this up. None of it would look out of place if you read it all on The Onion. It sounds below like he wants to invent The Sims or Second Life. Technology imitates technology.

  1. Are there blogs that are similar to yours Matt that are for Catia users? I just find it hard to believe that Catia users would stand for this non-sense.

  2. I would like to let you all see a 3Dvia page on “Minimoys” but today Dassaults page won’t load :-D. Go there and enjoy, well, when they get their cloud web thing working anyway and have a taste of the future.

In how many ways, in how many press releases does Dassault have to telegraph their intent to relegate serious CAD to the back burner before people begin to really understand that CAD and pure geometry creation for Dassault is not how they intend to make the bulk of their money in the near future. This is serious stuff for all their CAD customers who in my opinion better start looking for the exit. You are not the ones they care about any more.

  3. “Solidworks, old friend, we did geometry together.
I wore a suit, lived above ground, and had a life then.
Now I am a cloud serf. There is only simulation and escapist fantasy….
I should have resisted the matrix…”

  4. What utter bollocks.
To help him achieve his desire for immortality in cyberspace however, I will offer to model him a cardboard coffin in VRML format.
Committing Charles to a fully emersive experience is in keeping with my expectations of nature acting to restore harmony in the universe.
Hopefully placing him in life cycle management like this will have much less impact on the virtual environment than he had in life.
Alas Solidworks I knew it well…

  5. Bernard seems to have forgotten to mention the creation of geometry. Who needs it, it is part of that nerdy engineer, designer, builder thing. It is amazing that nobody would dare to ask such a question. They must be really be bought into the love mark stuff.
