Are You Curious?
Aren’t you just a little curious about what is out there in the CAD universe? Maybe you’ve been using history-based software for so long you’ve forgotten that your FeatureManager doesn’t have to turn red every time you make a change. Maybe you think rebuilding features and sketches every time you change the way you want a part to react to change is normal. Well, in case you haven’t seen it, there is a change coming to CAD Land. Your current software provider might be coy about it, or might even want you to think its something else, but history-based modeling is going to fade. It’s not going to go away, but it is going to be mixed with other methods that are just as powerful. It has in fact already happened.
This is a message for two kinds of people: A) Users who just use what’s popular, not what’s most productive and B) Users who are unwilling to let go of the old and just add a touch of the new without abandoning the old.
Synchronous Technology combines history-based modeling with direct edit techniques and a lot of smart tools. You don’t have to give up history to use it.
I’ve had several inquiries lately from customers about tools and about doing business with new providers. There’s a big world out there. If you’ve been stuck in the same place for the last 10-15 years, you need to have a look around. The fact that you’re here means you’ve started.
If you’re curious about Solid Edge, check out the new Solid Edge Community site. Noobs welcome. One of my favorite things I’ve seen there recently is a quick tour of the Solid Edge ST5 interface. You can look around without signing in, but signing in gives you more options. Insiders, and industry expert users answer questions from everyday users and people who are curious about the software and the technology. You can see from the number of views that the site is getting a lot of traffic in its brief life (so far over 20k hits for the welcome message from Karsten Newbury).
