Attend SolidWorks World for Free
There are some benefits to attending SolidWorks World. But I went to a lot of them in a row, and it got to be the same old stuff, and after a few of them, not much new benefit. It costs you a week of time, and at least a couple thousand bucks for flights, hotels, etc, not to mention the work you don’t get done while gone. I was always exhausted when I got home, blah, blah blah. You can’t beat it for meeting people, but if it’s primarily the information you are looking for, there are other ways to get that without the expense in time, money, wear and tear. San Diego did have a nice facility, though, probably the best of the conferences I’ve been to. I also liked New Orleans, and always love Vegas.
Anyway, this year, you can get all the information you would normally get at SWWorld for free – and without leaving the comfort of your cublicle, or office, or where ever you tend to work. Just tune in to Lou Gallo’s live blogging site.
Lou is a reseller that you can really trust. He won’t steer you wrong. I’ve only met him a couple of times face to face, but he’s definitely on my list of great guys who do a lot for users, and not just his users, but all SolidWorks users.
So, join me in following Lou’s live blogging from SolidWorks World. The former “blog squad” has been decimated for some reason, and Ricky Jordan may be the last man standing. I’m sure Twitter will light up as well, so follow the hash tag for a firehose of off-the-cuff comments and impressions (last year’s hash tag was #SWW2011, so I’ll leave you to figure out what this year’s might be).
SWW ideas is closed to me. No view, no post, no vote. They seem to only want ideas from those who pay subscription. I dropped off subscription as a way of communicating my dis-satisfaction with the state of the bugs in SW.
Thanks Matty! Appreciate the kind words. Also anyone can browse through the agenda and pick breakouts they like so let me know and I will try to get someone’s notes (and nuggets or Easter eggs). I will be taking and posting notes on the site for download (using Google Docs so share as well). I am also thinking about posting notes to Google+ since it has some longer form and built in interaction but we will see. ~Lou
