Infinite Skills Video Course Released
I have created a video course for basic SolidWorks 2013 that is being offered by Infinite Skills for $99. There is also an advanced course which is about 80% done, and should be ready in weeks (probably around $150). You can buy them separately or as a set (once the advanced course is finished).
So I have a book and a video available. Which do I recommend? Of course I recommend both. It depends on how you learn. If you are under 30, have ADD, and don’t have any patience with written words, get the video tutorial. It doesn’t contain as much information as the book, but it is visual, color, and moves on the screen. The guys who edit it do a professional job, and Kim says I have a nice voice. Thanks Kim. It is actually my voice on the videos, and me running the software. Fortunately, you don’t have to see my mug except on the back cover, which is a horrifying picture, lit from below, and gives me a creepy look.
The videos have a distinctly different method from the books. In the videos, it’s like you’re looking over my shoulder as I demonstrate the software for you, but you can stop me, rewind me, and make me say it over and over again. I think these things have a lot of value for people who are just learning the software or really just need a visual aid to get rolling.
The course comes with a set of files that go with the material. There are some small models, but I did a motorcycle that goes with the basic course, and an engine and a full-face helmet that go with the advanced course. I don’t think any of the images on the cover of the disk have anything to do with parts on the disk, which is strange.
There are a total of 96 tutorials for 12.5 hours of instruction. That’s a lot of yakking, let me tell you. It took 3-4 weeks to put all of this together, with creating the models taking additional time.
The advanced course starts off in multibodies, master model, layouts, goes through surfaces, advanced solid features, and does a lot with advanced assembly functions, file management, and top-down design. Stay tuned here to hear when the advanced course is available (should be a matter of weeks – main recording should be finished this week – April 20, 2013).
If you want to get the book as well, that’s fine. The videos are $100, but the books are only about $30, once Amazon is done raping the author.
Congratulations Matt, I’m sure they’re excellent.
