Is an all out legal war between SW and Autodesk really in the best interest of customers?
For the past couple of weeks you may have been reading along with me all of the blog posts about Autodesk suing SolidWorks over the use of a combination of letters. Several blogs have posted on this, including Jason Raak, Matt Lorono, Ralph Grabowski, and I’m sure many more that I’ve forgotten. I’m not going to get into the merits of the actual argument because, believe it or not, I don’t have any opinion on it. The only thing I hope is that the side who is judged to be in the wrong gets smacked with covering the legal fees of the winner along with penalties for wasting my money as both a customer and a tax payer on frivolous BS. I personally think lawyers are the bane of humanity, or at least represent the very darkest depths of our collective psyche. Who is this litigation really meant to benefit? I suppose it is more than likely an individual’s ego.
My one question here is if this is in any way in the best interest of either side’s customers. I don’t care about the subtle legal ramifications. I don’t care about the dwg editor or the dwg gateway because I’ve never used either. I just want SolidWorks to be good stewards of the money I send them yearly. How does spending all of this money defending this lawsuit help me?
