SolidWorks 2009 Barcelona press event: software enhancements
(image courtesy Smack, apologies to Ralph, I know it’s an immensely long flight from Vancouver)
The enhancements demo is really just a sales demo. It’s not at all a what’s new. It is trying to do the kitchen sink demo where you do everything from large assemblies, cabling, sheet metal, plastics, 3D Via, and a few other things I’ve missed because I was doing something else.
I know I’m not too interested in this, I can just imagine that the real press are bored stiff. Some people are very rudely talking during the presentation. Some of the worst offenders are even blatantly blogging, banging away on the keys, and even snickering as they take pictures of others sleeping after crazy long flights. Ok, I’m guilty of sitting in the back row and doing all of the above.
Humph.
Well, sales demos are best left for other situations, I think. This should look more like a what’s new than a sales demo.
There are a couple of questions that I want to ask, though. They showed some 3D Via, and said that it does documentation and makes it easier to do localization and changes, and… hey, doesn’t that sound a lot like what the SW documentation is fighting against? Why can’t SW use 3D Via to do this, and put their money where their mouth is for this product?
I used to love the support from the Product Center PDM people, and this was because they used their own product in house. There is nothing like actually using your own product to being able to sell and support it. Customers really believe in a product that you show that you really believe in, because you yourself have invested in the expertise to run it.
