ST5 is Released
The tweet says it all. I could repeat it, but that would be silly. After SEU, using ST4 to start a new project seemed like a waste of time, and I didn’t want to get software that was “almost” ready, so the modeling project idea was put on hold to wait for ST5’s release. Plus, this has been a rough couple of weeks for me, between the Derecho and 6 1/2 days without electricity in 100+ temps and then the death of my grandmother. So if things have seemed a bit quiet around here, that’s why. But don’t worry, it will all pick up again once we’ve got ST5 in hand. I’ve got a copy of the ST5 release notes document, but no authorization yet to write anything public from it. I know, it’s me, I should just do it and apologize later, right?
So anyway, we’ll be seeing software soon, and we’ll have plenty to talk about again, and time to do it.
Matt, sorry to hear about your grandmother.
Spend a large part of today playing around with ST5. I am pretty impressed by what I saw. The new multi-body and slot feature are probably my two favorites. Unfortunately it will still be a few weeks before we go fully over to ST5, the data management normally requires careful planning when upgrading.
Regards,
Theodore
What data management solution are you using?
Hello Ken,
We use Insight Server with SharePoint 3.0. I still have to download the new version of Insight. Fortunately SharePoint 3.0 is still supported so that will make our upgrade a lot easier. I have also noticed that Full Text Index is being replaced by Search Server 2008 Express. That is quite interesting and should be an improvement, I hope.
Regards,
Theodore
Matt sent an email this morning asking if I could share the download link. For those of you who wish to do so you will have to login to GTAC with your webkey credentials and follow the rigamarole to get your license file and your ST5 download. It is not a single link but is rather a proceedure you have to follow so sorry, if you have not done this before you have to do a few clickthroughs and re-entering of your webkey info.
Go to GTAC website. You will be prompted to login at various times, should be same credentials as your BBS forum login. Look for License Management, then current licenses. ST5 should be in that list download and save. Next go to Download Upload Files – Full Product Releases – All Siemens Products – Solid Edge , expand the dropdown and you will see the various flavors of SE. Pick ST5 32 or 64 bit and download. You will need a download manager because the links are occasionally broken and you will need to resume where you left off. 2.something GB file size by the way. You will need the license file to install as it will ask you for this. Install license manager first using your license file then the program.
I do not know if the public has access to a download yet I have not checked and my information is for current users. I would think in short order, probably this week, that you can contact Siemens if you are not a subscriber and get the 45 day trial and download info for that. This is program only and the parts libraries will be on a seperate dvd when you get your media in the mail.
Condolences to you Matt. I know what it feels like to lose loved ones.
I would agree with the idea that Siemens will have to be the main engine behind the promotion of SE. I had really expected the PR and momentum from last years Huntsville University to be the begining of the new way. There was a detour though that I am not going to elaborate on that sadly had to be taken care of first. This year is a different story however and I fully expect with the eager co-operation of Dassault who is doing all they can to alienate customers there will be much more activity on the SE side of things. In spite of the rather quiet PR effort on SE’s part last year don’t overlook sales which drive ability to fund things like PR and R&D and sales for SE in the Americas is up 40% in SE licenses in the Americas over last year by the time SEU2012 rolled around. They have the money to play with now.
This year will also see the first fruit of the new upcoming SE integrated aps ecosphere with the arrival of integrated CAM.
Finished downloading ST5 yesterday and the install this year was a pain free deal so now rubbing my grubby little hands with glee I start to play with ST5
Matt so sorry to hear about the loss of your grandmother. I wish you and your family all the best during this difficult time.
And please don’t worry about entertaining this Solid Edge crowd…. we’re a patient lot and we have all been raised on “Quality” and NOT quantity.
Take care and we look forward to your next post.
Bob
Well yes and no, having started this blog for promotional purposes Siemens have to keep the interest and chatter up or traffic will die, not that I think that many people are coming here anyway….
Sorry about your grandma Matt. She must have been a good age however.
