Autodesk Quickshare

Jimmy Bergmark, on his blog JTB World announces a design review product from Autodesk. It’s called QuickShare, from Autodesk Labs, and it might remind you of something else you may have heard about lately.

This is a viewer where you upload data and others can see it. There is no monthly fee, it appears to be free to both publish and view. Even cooler is that you can embed the viewer in web code, as you can see below. It has a name you can use in a URL. It doesn’t even require a login. It does not appear to allow markup at this time, but it does look like they are going to provide an API so you could use it for markup if you were ambitious and clever.

It does not try to charge you a fee for something that is ridiculously preliminary.

It says what it does, and it actually does it.

Autodesk Project Nitrous has a more complete design review solution with logins, commenting, status and revisioning.

Remind me again why the free but under-used 3D Instant Website was replaced? 3DIW was embeddable, included logins and markup, and did I mention it was free and available nearly a decade before n!Fuze?

Hi I can see you are busy with stuff.. but I wondered when you might be posting my book .. otherwise i will get bogged down with some other some heavy reading items for the hollidays..Oh and on another subject.. WHY is it if I make a model in SW or Acad and send it off to be machined .. mastercam or APS or delcam.. can I not then get the same piece back in a format that will drop straight into my model?? without surface changes and problems.. etc..

    Knotmaster,

The 2009 Bible is not printed yet. My publisher is taking their time on this, and hasn’t kept me informed. I’m trying to get a date from them, and I’ll make sure to let everyone know.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  2. I have been hoping to use SW VBA for some small projects, and had been hoping that your book would include the subject. However, I see your message saying you have removed the API chapter.

Official SW API training is difficult to come by, since few dealters offer the class. Is there another source of training you might recommend for the subject?

    Joe,

Part of the reason for dropping that chapter was that I don’t know much if anything about programming. Another part is that SW is changing over from VBA (about which I know little) to VSTA, visual studio tools for applications (about which I know nothing).

Harrass your reseller to just sell you the API book. If that doesn’t work, call a competing reseller and harrass them into selling you an API book. If that doesn’t work, call SW direct and get one. Mike Spens wrote a book on the API, but that was 2005, and I don’t know how applicable it is now.

  3. Hi.. This is my fairy tail.. I saw the Bible advertised for sale on E-bay UK from a UK book seller.. I paid and was told they had dispatched it.. waited a week then Emailed to ask where It was.. they cant find it.. but they took my money..I got it back when I ponted them to this site. and they said they had 9 for sale.. Wiley your distributor over here will not stock it till feb next year..nor will Amazon UK. I have bought one from you on this site..(sould have done that in the first place) but you have no button for additional mail cost so you need to send me a reqest for money and i will paypal the $26 or whatever the cost for airmail to the UK to you..

  4. When do you expect it will Reach the UK shores I am looking for some help with fluid dynamics..

This book won’t help you with fluid dynamics. It should be available through Amazon everywhere Amazon is available. Sorry I’m so ignorant about global distribution. I can send you one for another US$26.

  5. Looking forward to getting the new book. I was wondering – do you use Floworks at all or address it in The Bible?

  6. Will you be doing something at Solid Works World 2009 with your book?

    Randy,

It remains to be seen if I will be at SWW09 this year. If I am there, I will have 2009 and surfacing books with me. I will not have a booth in the partner pavillion.
