Poll: Solid Edge User Events
Do you remember the 2010 Productivity Summits? Those were a big hit, as I heard it. They are scheduled again for this year, and it will likely happen after ST5 has shipped. These events will all happen in the month of August. Here is a list of cities and dates (subject to change):
- Phoenix – Aug 2
- Pittsburgh – Aug 7
- Boston – Aug 9
- Toronto – Aug 14
- Montreal – Aug 16
- Cleveland – Aug 21
- Cincinnati – Aug 23
- Dallas – Aug 28
- Houston – Aug 30
These will be free, one day, Solid Edge focused events run by the Solid Edge team.
I don’t know this for sure, but I’m guessing that at these events, the Solid Edge team will be looking to identify individuals who would be willing to start and run local user groups. It usually takes 3 people to run a group effectively (to avoid burnout), and each summit could spawn multiple groups, so there will be a lot of opportunity for leadership in these inaugural groups. None of the details for this have been worked out, and I’m probably speaking out of turn to get the word out on this, but I think independent local user groups really empower users for learning, career development, finding employees, contractors or jobs, and other benefits.

Ken, it’s my understanding a couple more might be added including KC but discussions are still on-going and nothing is confirmed yet. Working out the details.
I think Spider Monkeys would have been an appropriate value added category at PLM World.
I wish there were more like the first time around and I assume that the spots were picked because they knew of large SE populations nearby. The same must still be true though I am finding out that none of these decisions happen without a reason. Kind of like an onion where I can only see the first layer there are more beneath and I am not privy to why so few this time.
Wish there was one closer to us. I think AllyPLM is thinking of supporting one in KC as there was one there the last time they held the Summits and it was well attended.
