Download materials for books

Ok, this is starting to drive me crazy. I appreciate that people still buy the books I’ve written. That’s nice. There’s still information in them that is useful.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about where to find the data from the DVDs.

Surfacing book: http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-0470258233,descCd-DOWNLOAD.html

SolidWorks 2011 parts: http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-111800275X,descCd-DOWNLOAD.html

SolidWorks 2011 assemblies: http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-1118002768,descCd-DOWNLOAD.html

I’d like to note a couple of things. After the book is written and edited, I really don’t have anything to do with the book from then on. My publisher, Wiley, does that. If you have a “customer service” type of issue, please go to the Wiley site (http://www.wiley.com/) and do a search for your topic of interest.

And another thing I need to mention is that you might need a special video codec to view the videos: http://download.techsmith.com/tscc/tscc.exe

If you have an older version of SolidWorks and can’t open the newer files, sorry. Complain to SolidWorks. It’s their fault, not mine, and yes, they do it on purpose to annoy you. The books don’t come with free software. The books don’t fix bugs in the software. The books don’t explain every little button click you need in order to make all the models included.

If you are opening some of the surfacing models (built with SolidWorks 2008) with later versions of the software, beware that some of the models will fail. This is because of changes SolidWorks has made to the software, not because the models suck. Now the models may still suck, but the sucky-ness of the models does not cause them to fail. SolidWorks fiddling with the software does that.

  1. I bought the books for work (CAD administration, surfacing, and the two bibles), and I thought they were great. I haven’t read through the bibles yet, but I still find myself referring people to all four as reference materials.

Don’t let people get you down; keep up the good work!
