Solid Edge 2022 and STEP AP242

I promised to show the STEP AP242 enhancement but forgot to do it in my faves post, so here it is in video form.

The basic idea is that you can save out a model to AP242 with dimensions attached to the solid, and then reimport it and use the dimensions to drive the model. But only in synchronous, and maybe some other direct edit modelers, but not in your history-based modeler.

To all you people who complain about dumb solids, why are you clinging to your wretched history-based modeler? There are so many ways to leave history where it belongs (behind you) that you’re running out of excuses.

  1. Matt, this works given whomever you are receiving the model from:
    A. Applies PMI dimensions to their model. Guessing most history based CAD users will not by default if still creating drawings, which still appears to be the norm.
    B. Exports in AP242. Guessing that is not the default format for many CAD apps, if they even have that option.
